Staff Profile: SRV Advocate, Jacinta

SRV Advocate, Jacinta

Q: What do you do at SRV?

A: My job title is Advocate – we are the people who support, speak out and promote the interests of vulnerable clients.  We are present during meetings with the client and lawyer, ensuring the client has a thorough understanding of the advice they are given and identify any social issues.  We have skills and knowledge in many social areas and can support clients to connect with services.

Q: What do you like most about your role?

A: I really like the challenges that come with such a range of Elder Abuse issues our clients bring to us.  I also love that moment when the client has a better understanding of their situation and realises that they are able to have control over their lives.  It is a good feeling.

Q: What advice would you give to your teenage self?

A: You are much stronger than you think.

Q: What’s something—big or small—that you’re really good at?

A: I am really good working with my hands – not creative, but practical – I usually need a pattern of some description, but have created some really beautiful things.
