Filling in an Advance Care Directive enables you plan ahead and decide what kind of medical and personal care you would like if you can no longer speak for yourself.
By ensuring your wishes are understood, you can reduce the risk of elder abuse occurring if decisions are made that you would not have chosen.
Advanced Care Planning Australia (ACPA) have information in a range of languages on their website to help you plan ahead.
ACPA is proud to have worked with Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (MCCI) to support the development of a new series of videos. The videos are in many languages other than English and the themes explored in the videos speak powerfully to all of us.

Before documenting your plan, it's important to have a good understanding of what advance care planning is and what's involved in the advance care planning process. In mid 2022 ACPA brought together a panel of experts from ACPA and MCCI for a webinar: Multicultural Perspectives on Advanced Care Planning. The panel explored the role of health professionals in advance care planning and how to better support people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds through the advance care planning process.
