The 2025-26 State Budget was handed down by Treasurer Jaclyn Symes yesterday, 20 May 2025.
COTA Victoria and Seniors Rights Victoria (SRV) have developed a special member briefing, accessible above, to update you on budget announcements, including what initiatives offer direct benefit to older Victorians, and how this investment aligns with priorities identified by COTA Victoria and SRV.
What we asked for
Our submission to the 2025–26 Victorian State Budget outlined five key priorities to support all
Victorians to age well:
- A renewed voice and vision for older Victorians.
- Strengthening elder abuse support and prevention.
- Supporting older people through energy transition and cost of living.
- Improving health, disability, and community support for older Victorians.
- Expanding housing support and security for older people.
Beyond individual measures, we called for a more coordinated and strategic response to Victoria’s ageing population.
We urged the government to set a new benchmark by embedding older people’s voices in planning and policy, ensuring that ageing is recognised and addressed across all portfolios.
An updated version of this briefing was published on 26 May and makes clarifications under the heading “Aged care and ageing well”.
