The Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria (ECCV), in partnership with SRV, launched its series of videos on elder abuse, Within My Walls, a community education resource in October 2014.
Within My Walls is a glimpse into the lives of older people in suburban Melbourne, who have been affected by mistreatment at the hands of their family.
This videos are a community education tool, designed to generate discussion about the topic of elder abuse. They address stigma about accepting help outside the family, not knowing where to go for help and increased dependency on adult children due to migration.
Within My Walls videos are available in 14 languages.
The translated videos are about Elder abuse. They show examples of different types of abuse within family relationships and relationships of trust.
The videos are available in fourteen community languages, including English. Please select your chosen language to watch the videos in.
In collaboration with SRV, ECCV conducts free Elder Abuse Bicultural Community Educator training sessions for people working with CALD seniors, support services or community organisations.
Once they have completed their training, ECCV also supports bicultural community educators to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate information sessions to raise awareness of elder abuse in their communities and direct them to the appropriate support services available in Victoria.
The training was adapted in response to COVID-19 restrictions in 2020 and now also runs online.
