Opportunity for people who have experienced family violence to speak to the Royal Commission – 24 April

The Royal Commission is holding a session specifically for older people who have experienced family violence on the morning of 24 April in the Melbourne CBD.

Seniors Rights Postcard imageThe session will take about an hour to an hour and a half. At least one of the Commissioners will be at the consultation session. It will be facilitated, and the participants, in small groups of 6-8 per table, will be guided through a discussion in response to 3-4 questions. The session will not focus on individuals or their particular stories, but rather on asking the participants to help identify systemic issues and opportunities. The questions will go along the lines of what worked ? what didn’t work? what could make the system better ?  Some participants may tell their stories as illustrative of their experience, and a psychologist will be on hand should any participant need assistance on the day.

The phone number for individuals wanting to attend the session is 1800 365 100 and the line is open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm. For more information about the Royal Commission, including the written submissions process, please visit www.rcfv.com.au, or ring  the number above.
