Lunch and Learn - Older people, mental health and elder abuse

EAAA invite you to register for the next Lunch and Learn session – Older people, mental health and elder abuse, on Tuesday November 30th 12-1pm (AEDT).

It is free to register for this session HERE.

EAAA Lunch and Learn sessions aim to:

  • Showcase the work of those working in elder abuse services in Australia
  • Share information about service provision, data, research and best practice in the elder abuse sector
  • Provide a space for those working in the elder abuse sector to learn from their peers, develop networks and engage across states and territories.

Older people are often an overlooked cohort when it comes to mental health and wellbeing support. This webinar will look at how older people with poor mental health can be at higher risk of experiencing elder abuse, and how the experience of elder abuse can have long-term detrimental effect on a person’s wellbeing.

This is a panel discussion and includes the following:

  • Facilitator: Professor Briony Dow, Director, National Ageing Institute

Panel discussion:

  • Professor Joe Ibrahim, Department of Forensic Medicine, Monash University.
  • Melanie Joosten, Policy Officer, Seniors Rights Victoria.
  • Elizabeth (Libby) Love, Senior Social Worker, Older Persons’ Mental Health, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.
  • Dr. Patricia Reyes, Geriatrician, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.
