Seniors Rights Victoria Advisory Committee

In 2015 the COTA Vic Board established the Seniors Rights Victoria Advisory Committee to contribute to the strategic development of Senior Rights Victoria.

Role of the Seniors Rights Victoria Advisory Committee:

The Committee:

  1. is responsible for providing strategic advice and support in the direction and overall performance and contribute to the attainment of the Strategic Plan;
  2. informs, develops and considers the key objectives and performance measures of Seniors Rights Victoria;
  3. works with the CEO and Seniors Rights Victoria Manager in advancing the interests of Seniors Rights Victoria; and
  4. provides advice to the Board in relation to strategic directions for Seniors Rights Victoria.

The members are:

Aaron Wyllie

Aaron Wyllie, BA, BSW (Hons), Phd Candidate, MAASW

Aaron is a qualified social worker currently undertaking his PhD at Monash University in the area of social exclusion in later life, supported by an Australian Postgraduate Award scholarship and an industry bursary from Benetas Aged Care. In addition to his role as a PhD candidate and Teaching Associate at Monash, Aaron is a research officer at Benetas Aged Care, with a particular focus on translational research in the areas of social inclusion, community engagement and comparative policy analysis. Aaron has previously held committee positions with Oxfam Australia and Monash University, where he has been actively engaged in the Oxfam-Monash Partnership. Aaron is a skilled social researcher and a passionate advocate for age diversity on Aged Care Boards and Committees in Australia.

John Chesterman

Dr John Chesterman 

John is Manager of Policy and Education at the Office of the Public Advocate. OPA is Victoria’s adult guardian of last resort and is also host to over 800 volunteers (in five volunteer programs), who seek to promote and protect the rights of people with disability. John is a trained lawyer and prior to joining OPA he lectured in politics for more than eight years at the University of Melbourne. He has written a number of books, including (as co-author) The Politics of Human Rights in Australia (Cambridge University Press). In 2013 John travelled as a Churchill Fellow to the US, Canada and the UK, where he examined a variety of adult protection systems.

Liz Cox small

Liz Cox, Bachelor Health Science (nursing), Master Health Policy and Planning, Grad Cert Risk Management, Certificates in Critical Care and Midwifery.

Liz has held positions on a variety of working and steering committees including a ministerial appointment on a Technical Reference Group (Aged Care). Liz is currently a member on the Canterbury Neighbourhood House Committee of Management and the Australasian Steering Committee for a Perinatal Care Program. Liz has held a variety of positions in healthcare management with a focus on Risk and Insurance Services in the public sector.

GeorgeKGeorge Koulis

George brings 25 years of experience as a senior executive and board member to the Seniors Rights Victoria Council. He has worked in various industries including Aged Care, Local Government and the Not for Profit sector. George is currently the General Manager – Commercial and Corporate Services at Doutta Galla Aged Services, a community based not for profit aged care provider. He brings many skills to the Council, including in Strategy, Governance, Finance and Marketing. George is passionate about looking after the vulnerable members of our community, in particular older people and children.

Mike Lescai

Mike has 30 years’ experience as an Executive and Non-Executive Director serving and advising executive teams across a broad range of industries. Mike has high order analytical, strategic, financial, risk management, organisational, change management & governance issues at Board level.  He is judged by peers to be an excellent strategic thinker, with sound judgement.  On returning to Australia in 2006, following a period of working in Singapore, Mike founded his consulting practice, Meerkat Group. In his community work Mike is a Director for Council on the Aging (Victoria) Inc.  Mike is a member of the Faithful Companions of Jesus Education Finance Committee and is President of The Network of Consulting Professionals Incorporated. In business Mike is a Director of Meerkat Associates Pty Ltd and MyCash Dashboard Pty Ltd. Mike is married with 3 daughters. He is a keen sports follower and supports the Sydney Swans in the AFL.
